Resize an image to 100 KB — the most common upload limit
Pick the limit a form or website gives you. The tool finds the largest, sharpest image that fits, on your device.
Processed in your browser — your image is never uploaded.
If a form has a file-size rule, it is probably 100 KB. Job portals, visa application systems, university admissions, insurance claims and tax offices all use it, usually for a photo, a signature or a scanned certificate. It is a comfortable limit: a sharp photo at screen size fits with room to spare, and a scanned page stays readable.
What 100 KB looks like
- A photo at about 1000 × 750 pixels in good JPG quality. That is larger than most form previews ever show.
- A head-and-shoulders portrait at 600 × 800 pixels in high quality.
- An A4 document scan at 1200 to 1400 pixels tall with clearly legible body text.
- A logo or screenshot as PNG at a few hundred pixels, with transparency kept.
Phone photos start at 3 to 5 MB, so the tool first lowers JPG quality and then, if needed, scales the picture to roughly a quarter of its original width. Nothing is cropped and the proportions stay the same.
Photo, scan or screenshot?
For photos and scans choose JPG. For screenshots with text, PNG stays crisper: the tool reduces the number of colours before it reduces pixels, so letters keep their edges. If a site accepts WebP, it reaches 100 KB with noticeably more detail than JPG.
How to do it
- The 100 KB limit is preselected. Add the image, or paste a screenshot.
- The size meter shows each attempt until one lands under the marker. Drag the slider to compare before and after.
- Download. Change the limit or the format at any time and the result is rebuilt in place.
Questions about the 100 KB limit
My file is 98 KB on my computer but the portal says it is too big.
Some portals count 100 KB as 102,400 bytes and some as 100,000. A few check the size before their own processing adds bytes. If a file just under the limit is rejected, set the limit to 95 KB and try again.
Will the photo still print well?
At 100 KB a photo is meant for screens and form previews. For printing, keep the original file; this tool never changes it.
Can I process several photos?
One at a time here. For a batch with the same settings, use the image compressor on this site.
