Resize an image to 200 KB — avatars, listings and document uploads

Pick the limit a form or website gives you. The tool finds the largest, sharpest image that fits, on your device.

Processed in your browser — your image is never uploaded.

200 KB is a limit set by services that show your image on screen and want pages to load quickly: profile pictures on community sites, listing photos on small marketplaces, attachment uploads in support portals and document scans in HR systems. It is generous enough that most photos keep their full screen resolution and high quality; the tool mostly removes the bytes a camera adds that nobody can see.

What to expect

A phone photo usually ends up at about 1400 × 1050 pixels in high JPG quality, often with no visible difference from the original on a monitor. A profile picture cropped to a square fits at 1000 × 1000 pixels with quality to spare. Document scans fit at full A4 reading size.

Transparent logos and screenshots as PNG also fit comfortably. The tool first tries the lossless PNG, then reduces colours only if that is still over 200 KB.

Making a profile picture

How to do it

  1. The 200 KB limit is preselected. Add the image.
  2. Watch the size meter; the result usually lands within a few attempts. Compare it with the original.
  3. Download. If the service also limits pixel dimensions, the dimensions are shown next to the size.

Questions about the 200 KB limit

Why keep a 200 KB limit when my camera makes 4 MB files?

A 4 MB photo on a profile page would be downloaded by every visitor at full size. Services cap uploads so pages stay fast and storage stays affordable. At 200 KB the picture looks the same on screen.

Does the result keep the camera's date and location?

No. Metadata is not written into the result, which is usually what you want for a public profile picture.

Can I pick a different limit here?

Yes. The presets range from 20 KB to 2 MB, and the field next to them takes any value.
