Resize a photo to 50 KB — exam registrations and ID uploads
Pick the limit a form or website gives you. The tool finds the largest, sharpest image that fits, on your device.
Processed in your browser — your image is never uploaded.
50 KB is the standard limit for photo uploads on exam registration sites, university admission portals and many job application systems in Asia and the Middle East. The same forms usually also ask for a fixed pixel size such as 200 × 230 or 300 × 400. The two rules go together: a photo of that size fits comfortably under 50 KB, so the limit mainly catches people who upload the original camera file.
What a phone photo needs to reach 50 KB
A 12-megapixel photo straight from a phone is 3 to 5 MB. To get under 50 KB it has to shrink to roughly 600 × 800 pixels at medium JPG quality. A head-and-shoulders portrait cropped to the face first can stay sharper, because fewer background pixels compete for the same byte budget.
Document scans behave differently. A page of black text on white compresses very well; an A4 scan at 1000 pixels tall often fits under 50 KB while staying readable.
Which format to choose
JPG, unless the portal names another format. Registration systems were mostly built before WebP existed and reject it. PNG is the wrong choice for a photo here: even at 50 KB a PNG portrait would have to be very small.
How to do it
- The 50 KB limit is preselected. Add your photo or scan.
- The size meter shows each attempt. When it lands under the marker, compare with the original.
- Download the file. The dimensions are shown next to the size, so you can check them against the portal's pixel rule.
Questions about the 50 KB limit
The portal also wants exactly 300 × 400 pixels. Does this tool do that?
This tool keeps the proportions of your image and changes only the size. For an exact pixel size and a face centred automatically, use the passport photo maker on this site; it also applies a KB limit.
Why did the file end up well under 50 KB?
The tool tries a ladder of quality steps and keeps the highest one that fits. When the step above was over the limit, the chosen one can land a bit lower. The picture is still the best quality the limit allowed at that size.
Does it keep my photo private?
Yes. Everything happens in your browser; the photo is never sent to a server.
